Research topic provides an overview on supply and demand for tobacco products, characteristcis of tobacco taxation and pricing policies as well as on the overall elasticity for tobacco products (first estimates in the SEE region).
Within this topic and using Household Expenditure Survey (HBS) data, authors estimated the price elasticity of demand on extensive margin (i.e. prevalence elasticity).
The aim of this topic was to estimate the price elasticity of demand by income group (using Household Expenditure Survey data).
Using results from topics 2 and 3, authors simulated the impact of increase in tobacco excise and price on consumption and government budget.
The research was conducted with the aim of collecting data on the use of tobacco products. It is similar as GATS and provide the data about smoking prevalence by different socioeconomic groups.
The aim of research topic is to provide the results on probability of tax avoidance and evasion (and impact of demographic characteristics, proximity to border, etc.) .using primary data from the STC-SEE 2019.
The main goal of this research is to estimate the crowding out effect of tobacco consumption on other consumption items. Research is based on HBS data for Serbia for the years 2006–2017.
This research analyzes trends in cigarette affordability in ten selected SEE countries, including five Western Balkan countries (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Serbia) and five EU members (Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary, Romania and Slovenia) for the period 2008-2020.
The increase in excise is expected to improve health and avoid premature deaths while also adding revenues to the state budget
