The Kick off meeting of all national research teams on the project “Accelerating Progress on Effective Tobacco Tax Policies in Low- and Middle- Income Countries” was held on February 26th 2018, at the Institute of Economic Sciences in Belgrade. This project is supported by University of Illinois in Chicago and funded by Bloomberg Initiative for Tobacco Reduce. The Institute of Economic Sciences is regional coordinator of tobacco taxation research in the Western Balkan Countries. The Kick off meeting was attended by representatives of the University of Illinois in Chicago, the Institute of Economic Sciences and partnering institutions from region which are participating in this project. They are: University of Banja Luka (Center for Project Management and Entrepreneurship and Center for Entrepreneurship and Transfer of Technologies); Faculty of Economics, Business and Tourism, University of Split; Center for Political Courage, Kosovo; Institute for Socio-Economic Analysis, Podgorica; Association for Policy Research Analytica, Skopje; Development Solutions Associates, Tirana.
At this meeting basic information regarding characteristics of project research were exchanged. Also, the basic elements of national studies and timeline for project realization were presented. Representatives of partnering institutions had the opportunity to present members of national project teams, to present research plans at the national level and the contributions that their national researches will have in developing a final regional study on tobacco taxation.
