Workshop on Tobacco Economics for Central and Eastern Europe

Representatives from Institute of Economic Sciences Jovan Zubovic, Isidora Ljumovic, Mihajlo Đukić and Olivera Jovanović
were participated on Workshop regarding Tobacco Economics related to international scientific project Accelerating Progress on Effective Tobacco Tax Policies in Low and Middle Income Countries. Workshop was held in Poland, Warsaw, May 8-10 2018. Main aim of Workshop was to provide support in development of a regional research network to build capacities and advance economic analyses. Another aim was to expand the evidence base and support to tobacco control policies in Central and Eastern Europe and Black Sea Region. Participants were economists and tobacco control experts from all over the world who talked about current economic research activities in Low and Middle Income Countries and priorities for future research and trainings.

Day 1 included presentations from country case studies to summarize previous research and examples of how research has been identified, implemented and translated into practice and policy. Special notice was lack of data and recommendation for overcome. Day 2 focused on presentation and discussion of work in progress and identifying research needs and future steps. Day 3 included presentations regarding methods for estimating the elasticity of tobacco price and demand on tobacco excise tax and it`s application in project research.
